Working together for good mental health

This programme is led by The Duke of Sussex, and was launched when HRH was a patron of The Royal Foundation. The programmes started when they were patrons of The Royal Foundation. More details on their charitable activities will be coming in the future.

Contact is a collaboration of armed forces charities working together with the NHS, Ministry of Defence and academia to help improve services offered to the Armed forces community regarding mental health and wellbeing support.

The contact group are working to develop a description of services and commonly used terms in simple, layman’s language to improve the accessibility of support and care and thus improve help-seeking. The group are also working towards a set of common entry questions to help with a person’s experience of using a range of services across different providers as well as common reporting metrics to increase the sector’s efficiency and understanding.

Tackling stigma

Contact is a Heads Together charity partner and works with The Royal Foundation to tackle the stigma around asking for help with mental health challenges. During the peak of the Heads Together campaign, Contact partners Help For Heroes and Walking with the Wounded saw 67% and 63% increases, respectively, in referrals to their mental health support programmes.

“All of the successful steps we’ve taken so far have involved collaboration, and I urge all of you to commit to greater openness and coordination so we can make this change together.”
