01/11/2019

Today [Friday 1st November 2019] Step Into Energy launched a new international programme as part of The Royal Foundation and in partnership with Houstan Texans at Hazelwood Centre, London.

Step Into Energy is an international employment programme to support veterans enter into the energy sector, helping them build a career in the energy industry in the UK and the US. Step into Energy challenges companies in the energy industry to demonstrate their commitment to the veteran community by employing veterans, and in return, be recognized and acknowledged for their commitment at the World Petroleum Congress in Houston in December 2020.

“We are really pleased that the range of opportunities available to service leavers and veterans continues to grow under the Step Into Employment banner. This programme will support men and women transitioning out of the armed forces – a period of time that can be tumultuous for many – and enables our amazing service personnel to not only become great veterans, but also productive and valuable citizens.” – David Wiseman, Head of Programmes: Supporting Those Who Serve, The Royal Foundation

Step Into Energy is a unique global employment programme that offers opportunities specifically for those transitioning from the armed forces in the UK and the US. Military veterans often inherit skills and talents through their military careers that are translatable in industry and can help address workforce gaps. Walking With The Wounded and NextOp work closely with veterans  to translate skills and the employers who value these skills to bridge the connections.

Unlike previous ‘Step Into’ programmes developed by WWTW in partnership with The Royal Foundation, Step Into Energy supports veterans both in the US and UK as part of the charity’s Veterans Transatlantic Partnership (‘VTAP’) initiative. VTAP promotes cooperation and collaboration between UK and US veteran organisations focussed on employment and mental health.

Step Into Energy will offer both veterans and energy companies unique opportunities to engage in the conversation and secure top talent throughout 2020.
