THE PRINCE AND PRINCESS OF WALES CELEBRATE THE 10th ANNIVERSARY OF COACH CORE

13/10/2022

The Prince and Princess of Wales visited the Copper Box Arena in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to take part in an event with Coach Core, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

The Royal Foundation founded Coach Core in 2012 to contribute to the legacy of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Since then, the now independent charity has supported over 750 disadvantaged young people onto community sports coaching apprenticeships, which will enable them to start meaningful careers, re-engage with education and increase activity levels in their local areas.

The charity is now looking ahead to the next 10 years, supported by its ambassadors including England Lioness and Manchester City captain Steph Houghton, 6-time Olympic medallist Max Whitlock, tennis legend Judy Murray and elite gymnastics coach Scott Hann. With a 5-year agreement in place with Sport England to become a systemic partner of change, the charity is embarking on an ambitious strategy to change more lives than ever before.

Their Royal Highnesses met with some of the young people Coach Core engage with and got a taster of the sports sessions on offer and how these can change young people’s lives.

On this significant milestone, and this point of transition, Coach Core CEO, Gary Laybourne, and former apprentices alongside other guests will take the time to reflect on the incredible progress Coach Core has made since 2012.
