Suicide Prevention

A united approach to supporting those at risk
For over a decade, The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales has worked to improve mental health outcomes across the UK. More recently it has expanded its work into suicide prevention, bringing together partners from across sectors to improve access to support and reach at-risk communities.

Preventing suicide is a complex challenge, shaped by social, economic and personal factors, meaning there is no one-size-fits-all model of support. The Royal Foundation’s work in this space is founded on the hope and belief that, by working together, we can do much more to ensure that people are able to access the support they need, when and where they need it.

On World Mental Health Day 2025, The Royal Foundation launched the National Suicide Prevention Network (NSPN), bringing together 20 organisations from across the UK to strengthen collaboration, improve access to support, reduce stigma, and address the root causes of suicide. Alongside the Network, the Foundation has partnered with high-influence sectors, including sport, to support organisations to embed suicide prevention through practical tools, resources and partnerships.

Together, this work aims to increase the reach, visibility and effectiveness of suicide prevention efforts across the UK.

On Your Side: A Suicide Prevention Toolkit

Sport reaches millions of people each week and can be a lifeline for those at risk of suicide. Across the four nations, clubs from grassroots to elite teams and their fanbases represent powerful force for connection and support.

In 2026, The Royal Foundation partnered with BSI and Chasing the Stigma to launch a toolkit to help the sport sector take action on suicide prevention. Developed with input from more than 200 experts and partners, the toolkit is the most comprehensive suicide prevention resource created specifically for the sports sector and will be available on Chasing the Stigma’s Hub of Hope, the UK’s largest mental health directory.

The National Suicide Prevention Network aims to improve equality of access to suicide prevention support across the four nations.

The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales launched the Network on World Mental Health Day, 2025, bringing together organisations across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. All Network partners are determined to deliver lasting change in how suicide is understood – and prevented.

Building on existing work in the sector, the Network will strengthen support systems, close gaps in access and build cross-sector collaboration, whilst generating the awareness, resources and innovation that is needed.

Partners of the National Suicide Prevention Network include Baton of Hope, BAYO, Brave Mind, Chasing the Stigma, Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies), Jac Lewis Foundation, James’ Place, Mates in Mind, MindOut, Mikeysline, Molly Rose Foundation, National Suicide Prevention Alliance, PAPYRUS UK, PIPS Suicide Prevention Ireland, Ripple, Suicide&Co, Support After Suicide Partnership, The Jordan Legacy and 2wish

“The incredible partners who form this network reach those at risk of, or affected by, suicide with their inspirational work. I have had the privilege of meeting all of the founding partners and seeing first-hand their powerful community-based efforts to offer hope and support to those who need it most. Their efforts reaffirm the urgent mission of the National Suicide Prevention Network: to build a bold, unified national response to the heartbreaking – and preventable – tragedy of suicide.”
